It is in the nature of any real esoteric path to progressively draw its followers ever deeper into the mysteries of existence. On this journey, all outer forms are gradually discarded: the trappings of the mundane causal personality, the belief systems, the aims, the desires all those things which can ultimately give reasons to the individual for their continuing existence.
It is this stage along an occult way that opens the door to the Silent Desert. A Dweller of the Silent Desert does not seek reasons to exist, for theirs is a way without thought. They are naturally alone, for there is no esoteric purpose drawn from union with others. They seek not an expansion of their earthly individuality, as they do not seek comfort and a loss of themselves in the worldly concerns and struggles of others.
The Dweller possesses no aims, no schemes, no desire for causal achievements.
But they do not regard possession of these things as somehow wrong or profane, or that those who are so motivated are mistaken. There is no such judgement on these or any other thing. Rather, it is in their nature to seek silence as their mode of Being, and for them, in silence, is the heart of the essence of the World.
They are wordlessly drawn ever onwards towards the horizons beneath vast twilight skies, until they are finally claimed by the Mystery. For it is a particular yearning, often suffused with sorrow, which impels them onwards, without thought.
Their compulsion is to move ever towards the essence that eludes all outer forms. Thus does the Dweller walk the most difficult spiritual path of all: to wordlessly become the Mystery itself, for no personal glory or any earthly desire. There is very little to comfort the Dweller, as their Way is a path of trust in the darkness of the Mystery.
Thus, such individuals are born to walk this path. It is often the embarking upon another occult/spiritual way that eventually reveals this truth and in some cases, it is the purpose of such a way to so reveal this. For a grasping towards the Mystery, stripped of all outer forms, cannot be undertaken without first journeying through the trappings of the Self, and the outer world.
It is the simplicity of not striving coupled with the struggle of endurance that is the key to the simple yet profound existence of the Dweller. The Way is not the belief in striving to attain a goal in the outer world, but rather it is the acceptance that the flowing towards and with the Mystery is the answer, and that all things then flow from there.
The Destiny of the World is shaped by virtue of such individuals. By letting go, their actions become harmonised with the cosmos. But the Destiny of the World is not contemplated by the Dweller, who lets all things pass in silence.
The Dweller is impelled to be, without form and without the need for understanding. The Dweller is drawn to places of natural silence to places in the outer world where real wilderness thrives, since it is in the wilderness of Nature where the Mystery impels most strongly.
The Dweller has no possessions save what they can carry on their back. Some may carry with them at all times a crystal, which will over the course of their journey retain their life force and ultimately the essence that is the Silent Desert. It may act as a legacy, if the Dweller so chooses.
The solitary Way of the Silent Desert has always and will always naturally exist: it is not a Way that has been created and refined and evolved over the ages. Nor is it a Way that can be taught, but only discovered and expressed anew with each new individual.
Ultimately, those who walk it do so not from choice, but because they are the Way itself born into the outer world, leading itself back beneath twilight skies to its genesis.
