Yksittäisen ihmisen valtava vaikutus – Mo Salah teki liverpoolilaisista vähemmän rasisteja

Yksittäisen ihmisen merkitys voi olla valtava. Sen osoittaa jalkapalloilija Mohamed Salah, joka on noussut viime vuosina Liverpoolin suureksi sankariksi. Jopa niin suureksi, että on onnistunut muuttamaan uuden tutkimuksen mukaan omilla ansioillaan koko kaupungin asennetta vähemmän islamofobiseksi.

Ikävät puolet maailmasta nousevat usein otsikoihin. Se on loogista, koska niitä klikataan paljon ja esimerkiksi rasistisesta käytöksestä kertovat uutiset ovat some-riitojen polttoainetta ihmisille kautta linjan. Toiset jakavat rasistien pikkumaiset ajatukset, toiset lukevat uutisia, koska haluavat tunteensa palolla puolustaa maailmaa rasismilta.

Vasta pari kuukautta sitten ympäri maailman luettiin otsikoita, joissa kerrottiin muslimijalkapalloilija Salahin joutuneen Chelsean fanien rasistisen huutelun kohteeksi.

Mutta oman kylän pojilla on toinen ääni kellossa ja on hienoa, että myös tämä puoli tarinasta nousee otsikoihin. Stanfordin yliopiston tutkimuksen mukaan Liverpoolissa on koettu peräti 18,9 prosentin pudotus muslimien vastaisessa vihassa sen jälkeen, kun Salah saapui kaupunkiin pari vuotta sitten.

Millään muulla rikollisuuden saralla ei vastaavanlaista pudotusta ole kaupungissa nähty. Salahin vaikutukseen viittaa myös se, että muslimivastaiset twiitit ovat pudonneet puoleen Liverpoolin fanien joukossa verrattuna muihin Valioliigajoukkueisiin. Juuri voitettu Mestarien liiga -mestaruus tuskin kääntää tilannetta toiseen suuntaan.

Urheilufanien primäärireaktiot kertovat paljon rasismista. Siksi monet liigat ja kattojärjestöt painottavat, että aiheeseen on puututtava tiukasti ja esimerkiksi futiskentillä on vuosikausia pyöritetty Punainen kortti rasismille -kamppista aiheen esillä pitämiseksi.

Suomalainen muutos

Suomessakin on menty asiassa eteenpäin, vaikka täällä ollaan vielä melko lastenkengissä urheilun kansainvälisyyden suhteen. Kai voi kuitenkin ajatella, että muutos on ollut nopea.

Kun kotipaikallani Säynätsalossa, “Suomen punaisimmassa kunnassa” järjestettiin 1980-luvulla yleisurheilukilpailut, kertoi tapahtuman flyer radalla nähtävän kovatasoinen sadan metrin kilpailu. Mainosteksti kertoi, kuinka kisassa on “mukana myös n-sana!”

Paikallisen koripallojoukkueen ensimmäiset vahvistukset tulivat Neuvostoliitosta, sitten Venäjältä ja vasta 1990-luvun puolivälistä alkaen Yhdysvalloista.

Ysärin puolivälin jälkeen pelireissulla Kauhajoella paikalliset jäbät löi meitä löysien housujen takia kisadiskossa täysiä mahaan ja piiritti traktorilla illan päätteeksi ja jenkkivahvistuksille huudettiin n-sanaa ottelun katsomosta. Muutos nykyiseen näkyy muun muassa siinä, että Kauhajoella on pitkään voinut nähdä koripalloa, jossa kotijoukkueen aloitusviisikossa ei ole yhtään kotimaista pelaajaa.

Oman esimerkkinsä suomalaisesta urheilufanitukseen liittyvästä rasismista ovat antaneet myös Musta Barbaari kumppaneineen. Kun Suomi voitti Ruotsin nuorten jääkiekon MM-kisojen välierässä vuonna 2016, Musta Barbaari, Seksikäs-Suklaa ja Dosdela julkaisivat kuvan, jossa he juhlivat voittoa Suomen pelipaidoissa. “KYLLÄ ME SUOMALAISET VAAN OSATAAN!!! MAHTAVAA SUOMI!!! TORILLA TAVATAAN!!!” luki kuvan saatteena.

Kuva kirvoitti vielä 2016 äärimmäisen surullista rasistista kritiikkiä, eikä n-sanoissa ja suomalaisuuden määrittelyssä värin perusteella säästelty. Kun Barbaari julkaisi saman kuvan Suomen voitettua maailmanmestaruuden tänä keväänä, ei testi enää tuonut elämäm koululaisia koloistaan.

Musta Barbaari, Seksikäs-Suklaa, Prinssi Jusuf ja Dosdela voidaan hyvällä omalla tunnolla määritellä juuri sellaisiksi yksittäisiksi ihmisiksi, jotka pystyvät muuttamaan isompien joukkojen asenteita ja ovat niin jo tehneet. Mo Salahin tapaan he ovat vähentäneet rasismia Suomessa, mutta yhtä iso vaikutus heillä on oman yhteisönsä esikuvina ja roolimalleina.

ps. Koska suomalaisuutta käytetään usein poissulkemisen välineenä niissäkin yhteyksissä, missä se ei ole mitenkään perusteltua, nostan loppuun vielä oman kommenttini vuodelta 2016 Mustan Barbaarin kuvan ympärille syntyneestä, varsin värikkäästä keskustelusta:

Nyt, kun täällä on näin paljon näitä suomalaisuuden asiantuntijoita paikalla, niin olisi kiva saada tietoon se oikea suomalaisuuden määritelmä, jota Barbaari ja kaverit eivät ilmeisesti täytä. Kuinka pitkään pitää olla asunut Suomessa? 10 vuotta, 100 vuotta, ikuisesti? Kelpaako ruotsalainen tai baltialainen veri? Onko italialais- tai kreikkalaistaustaiset jo liian tummia? Onko irakilainen enemmän suomalainen kuin somalialainen, koska sillä on vaaleampi iho? Entä lasketaanko mukaan, jos itse tai vanhemmat lähti parempien olojen toivossa Ruotsiin ja palasi sieltä takaisin? Onko saamelaiset suomalaisia? Jos on, niin onko muut? Onko sivarit suomalaisia vai vain armeijan käyneet? Voiko kukaan muuttua/kasvaa/oppia suomalaiseksi? Onko Espanjassa asuva propagandalehden päätoimittaja suomalainen? Onko vihreitä tai vasemmistolaisia arvoja kannattavat suomalaisia? Onko linnakundit, raiskaajat ja tappajat suomalaisia, jos niillä on valkoinen iho?

Ja bonuskysymys: Minkä ihmeen takia kuvittelette, että suomalaisuus olisi sun mielipiteestä kiinni?
