How long gown dress To Make a Perfectly Good Dance Costume Design Go Bad! As I mentioned, after sorting through hundreds of dance costume designs, I picked out these five photos to illustrate some of the common areas in costumes that could be avoided with minimal design or fit changes. Anyone is welcome to email your sketches to me to evaluate how flattering a potential design might be. Let's make the world a prettier and more flattering place for all!

As the saying goes…"Once a swimwear manufacturer fashion designer, always a fashion designer." But this can sometimes be a hazard: I am always dissecting people's outfits and costumes! My "designer eye" is always critiquing what I see, both the good and the bad.

I was recently scouring through costume manufacturer a dance studio's Facebook page, trying to find photos of a dancer wearing her Satin Stitches' costume. Along the way, I clicked through hundreds of photographs of the studio's recent invitational. I saw many beautiful dancers and some truly fabulous costumes, but I also saw a few costumes that did nothing to flatter the dancers who were wearing them.

I cringed at what I saw and not because the costumes or dancers looked bad, or even because of poor craftsmanship, but because I knew that with just a few minor changes, they would have been truly beautiful! The unflattering product was the result of an unfortunate decision regarding a minor detail or two of the design or fit of the costume.

You'll notice that in order to protect the privacy of the dancers in each of the following photos, I have cropped them so that, hopefully, no one will be able to connect these costume examples with the ballroom dancers themselves.

It is truly not my intent to humiliate or disparage any dancer. Rather, my goal is to analyze and explain these design flaws in order to help illustrate how the costume could have accentuated each dancer's unique qualities. I aim to provide fitting tips that will assist each of my readers in future costume design selection.

Photo #1

The Problem? A lovely costume with a minor flaw: the cut-out portion on the upper arms draws unwanted and unflattering attention to her arms.

The fix? Instead of scooping out a rounded opening, the cut-out should have been made vertically, as vertical design lines are always more flattering than non-vertical. I'll be the first to admit that I am not proud of my upper arms, so I always make an attempt to minimize calling attention to them. Likewise, this dancer's costume would be far more flattering with less emphasis on the upper arms. I think, however, the remainder of the design looks great on the dancer.

Photo #2

The Problem? A great design, with an unfortunate fabric choice. Generally speaking, prints are risky. This red and black on white print is workable, but the sheer fabric used on the neckline and bodice appears to be pinker than the red in the print and in the skirt godets. Sheer red over white will always ‘read' as pink.

The Fix? In my opinion, the dress could have been more elegant if it were a solid color, or with a monochromatic color combination, such as red with pink, or light blue with medium blue. Other than the fabric choice, however, this was a lovely design that really flattered the dancer.

Photo #3

The Problem? Although this man's shirt is really well constructed and the rhinestoning detail is exquisite, the issue with this look has less to do with the style of shirt and more to do with the coloring of the shirt paired with this gentleman's white chest.

The Fix? A better look for him and this shirt, would have been a minimal spray tan to bring his chest's color up to his face tone, or perhaps selecting a new color for the shirt so as to not mimic his chest color. Another option for a classier look, would be to limit the opening and create more of a narrow, deep front opening, rather than the wide and deep chest exposure. A simple change to the color and cut could have vastly improved this costume.

Photo #4

The Problem? Although photo #4 shows a nicely designed and constructed costume, the design did not flatter this particular dancer to her best advantage. Horizontal details are not often complementary or the best choice, so the wide belt across her stomach area should have been avoided.

The Fix? A solitary accent point at her hip, could have been a beautiful focal point to draw the eye down in a flattering pattern from the neckline detail, to the side hip and then down to the hemline. The rhinestoned open collar with peak-a-boo bra is a very current trend and could have worked for this dancer, if it had created a diagonal line, rather than a horizontal line. This is probably more of a fitting issue. I envision the collar exposing less of the bra, which would create a smaller opening and more of a ‘V' shaped point on her midriff. Since this would defy the laws of physics, a sheer panel could be employed which would have helped the opening to keep a tighter fit and thus, prevent the collar from stretching out to show an ‘O'-shaped opening rather than a ‘V' Shape.

Photo #5

The Problem? This costume showcases a beautifully rhinestoned pattern over a sheer black mesh bodice. However, the waistline positioning is most unfortunate, in fact, I don't think the cut of this waistline paired with the satin skirt and sheer mesh bodice would have been attractive on anyone.

The Fix? To improve this design, the position of the waistline would need to be raised. I would also want to change the color of the skirt to black. In addition, I would also line the bodice, below the cleavage area, for a classier and more flattering look.

Wholesale Sexy Halloween Costume For Women  1

DWTS halloween costumes outlet Season 20: Week 4 Costume Critique Noah and Sharna danced a Contemporary routine with Noah wearing basic taupe trousers, along with his tattoos and muscles. Sharna wore a pastel pink lace biketard with a pretty drape. Shoulder definition added drama to her deep V neckline (both front and back). I loved her costume, and I loved their performance! I do like when the show starts and ends strongly, and this week was no exception.

What is the most memorable lingerie manufacturer china year of your life? I don't know what I would choose if I were the celebrity, but we did get a peek into the contestant's lives this week on Dancing with the Stars!

Nastia and Derek started off the show, with their underwear manufacturer china Argentine Tango. The couple was dressed totally in black, looking classy and sophisticated. Nastia's black bejeweled lace costume with simple, plain A-line skirt was exquisite, with a beautifully sculpted neckline and un-noticed utilitarian elastic straps to keep her bodice on and in place. I loved it.

Michael and Peta then danced a moving Rumba in baby blue. The somber tone was reflected with no added glitz for Michael. Peta's ankle-length, sheer lace costume was feminine, sexy and classy, with lots of rhinestone embellishment, including her straps. I enjoyed their costumes.

It seemed to be a mono-chromatic week, with several couples in costumes that were all one color, as Riker and Allison were in bright, hot red. Riker was very dapper in his peak-lapelled, double-breasted suit with beautifully sprinkled red rhinestone trim. All of his accessory items were red. His dance partner was also resplendent in her red, middle-connect dress with her skirt flaring out from her knees. Wide rhinestoned straps added the ‘designer touch' to her costume. I loved both costumes separately and together.

Robert and Kym Waltzed to Robert's Mother's favorite song. Robert wore a traditional white tuxedo with tails and all white accessories. Kym was less traditional, in her pastel pink, sun-burst pleated skirt with bejeweled bodice. Her bra-top was covered with pearls and rhinestones and featured real straps that created a bare front midriff but with a covered lower back. It was a little cheesy, and would not have been flattering on other figure types with the frothy-yet plain organza skirt cut to her natural waistline. I didn't love it.

Chris and Witney danced the Rumba with Chris in a simple charcoal vest and pant with white shirt (with no glitz). Witney wore a light-colored (it was difficult to deduce what exact color it was), sheer chiffon middle-connect dress with bright pink, glitzy flower appliques decorating the upper section of her dress. Unfortunately the back of her bodice consisted of a center back drape, and visible elastic straps. This was one of my least favorite costume looks this week.

Patti and Artem then Jazz danced to a jazzy song of Miss LaBelle's from the 70's. Her royal blue fringed costume was very danceable and was flattering for her. With long sleeves with a row of fringe to enhance her movements, and scalloped fringe (created by sewing the fringe on, in a scalloped line instead of straight across) created a flattering visual, even with using long fringe that can look bulky. Artem wore trousers cut to his high-rise waistline with a short-sleeved knit top with open neckline – an homage to that era.

Rumer and Val performed a Waltz with charcoal grey as their color scheme. Val wore a satin charmeuse shirt with trousers – no glitz anywhere, and Rumer wore a wispy woven, semi-sheer double-georgette dress with the charcoal grey over a lighter color of grey. Her costume featured deep V's front and back with shoulder interest and a drape at her back waist, along with twisted fabric detailing and some rhinestones. Her look was young, unusual and edgy, and I loved it!

Suzanne was back to her vintage themed look, dancing a Foxtrot with a lavender satin Lycra ‘onesie' with an ankle-length overskirt, lined with white. Rhinestoned lapels, shirt-cuffs and suspenders accented her outfit. I watched ‘Three's Company' but I'm at a loss for the reason for the design of this costume, other than she wore short, shorts. Tony wore a basic black suit with white shirt and plaid tie. Jack on the show, sometimes wore a plaid shirt, but really, this is the only reference I recall, as to why this pair was costumed as they were. What would have made more sense? I'm really not sure, but I didn't love these costumes.

Willow and Mark wore Hunger Games inspired costumes for their Contemporary performance. Both were androgynous in their black car-wash skirts, leggings along with shoulder pad detailing. I enjoyed their costumes as much as the judges enjoyed their dance performance (lots!).

DWTS corsets wholesale Season 24 Week 5 Costume Critique Her bright orange lace top, sash and headband were bedazzled beautifully, and her asymmetrical white lace skirt over matching fringe was perfectly proportioned for her petite frame. And I loved the green vegetation around Sasha's leather-looking cummerbund/waistband. They looked absolutely fabulous together. FINALLY!!!! One of my favorite moments of the show was seeing Donny Osmond perform his song, "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan– it was great seeing him again! And it's sad that Erika was voted off, as her costume was exquisite this week!

"Dancing with the Stars" wholesale halloween costumes started off with a truly ‘enchanted' opening number, featuring Alfonso, and a couple of young dancers and the cast. Rashad and Emma started the ‘Disney Night' festivities with dancing a Fox Trot. Rashad was wearing proper 18th century attire, with his royal glitter velvet tailcoat with matching blue brocade vest and plain trousers. Lots of gold braid trimmed his formal ‘beastly' togs and wrist ruffles added to his historic ‘peacock' look. Emma wore a basic yellow ‘beauty' of a dress. Their costumes were suitable for their theme, pretty enough, but nothing special. Nick and Peta then danced a Jazz presentation with ‘cutesy' costumes. I enjoyed Nick's Pinocchio togs with bright colors, big buttons on his suspenders and feather in his cap. Peta's basic black costume included big yellow buttons on her red crop-top, under her short, minimalistic black tuxedo jacket, leggings, and tiny top hat. Adding can-can skirts worked well with their costumes. Neither costume was extraordinary, but were suitable for their theme. The use of accessory items such as hats, shoes and bow ties can be important for conveying your dance theme without extreme costs. Erika and Gleb danced a classy and elegant Viennese Waltz with Gleb in rather traditional-looking formal attire with his black satin shirt, basic black vest and pleated trousers. Erika wore a beautiful dusty pink gown with long mesh sleeves, beautifully low-cut bodice and matte-finished woven skirt with sheer, shiny, blue-iridescent godet insets to create her lovely skirt fullness. The iridescent skirt panels along with the multi-colored (including blue) rhinestones included in the asymmetrical rhinestone patterns of her bodice hinted at the ocean water theme of their dance. Her gown was light and airy, and floated during her performance. I LOVED her costume!

Our Minnesota's Alan and Heather presented a Jazz wholesale christmas costumes routine costumed with their "Frozen" theme. Again, both dancers were suitably styled in their historically Disney togs, but not overly impressive. I was rather surprised by Heather's white briefs (the bottoms of her white blouse leotard-did you notice a few missing rhinestones on her collar?) showing over her dark-toned tights (under her lack-luster skirt). Her deep green weskit was attractive and coordinated with Alan's deep green leather-look tunic with wispy fur trim and shoulder detailing. I didn't like the bib-detail on his tunic. It looked stuck on and unattractive. Bonner and Sharna were also in character while dancing their Tango, wearing themed, cartoon costumes. Very suitable but definitely not glamorous or classy. The orange plaid shirt worn by Bonner included narrow metallic gold threads woven into the plaid – the highlight of his costume, for me! Maybe the one-shouldered brown, bib overalls part of his costume brought back memories of the Zionsville HS show choir's ‘River Folk' set of costumes that we created this last winter! Sharna wore a blue velvet hoodie with pink zipper and strings, matching blue thigh-high stockings (which glue or double-sided tape did she use to hold them up during her rigorous dancing? – I know, do you?) I did enjoy her black, sunburst-pleated double-layered skirt with leather-looking waistband, but generally both costumes were pretty ho-hum.

Normani and Val danced a "Mulan"-inspired Paso Doble with very successful costumes, in my opinion. They wore black costumes with similar silhouettes, with feminine and masculine versions. Both costumes featured shoulder details and lots of visual fabric textures with the addition of a sheer, paneled skirt for Normani. I LOVED their costumes which featured just a touch of shine. They were perfect! David and Lindsay danced the Jive wearing car-racing togs that I LOVED! Red vinyl-looking sexy jumpsuit on Lindsay and red leather-looking classy jumpsuit on David. Both featured bright yellow color-blocking, some red rhinestoning and a triple star detail on their chests. Just the right amount of glitz, along with wide belt detailing. Of course Lindsay's front zipper was down, revealing a sexy red bra. Her costume was VERY similar to several seasons of New York Knicks ‘City Dancers' team uniforms that Satin Stitches created, many seasons ago. Nancy and Artem then danced an ‘enchanted' Jazz routine with Artem in a basic, traditional charcoal gray ballroom ensemble with a tie matching Nancy's dress. Nancy wore an aqua feminine, youthful, historical gown with gathered mini-puffed sleeves and a ruched empire bodice. Her skirt cut away at the center front to reveal a white underskirt. Little splatterings of rhinestoned flowers bedazzled her floating frock. Nancy's age didn't figure into the costuming equation – she emulated a young girl and looked great. Simone and Sasha finished out the show with Simone FINALLY in a perfect costume that fit her body, her age and her theme of a Contemporary dance routine as Moana.
